How to play
Fruit Trail is a classic three-reel fruit machine with one win line across the middle.
- Choose a coin (1, 2, 5, 10 or 20). That is your whole stake for the spin.
- Press Spin. Three of a kind on the line wins, and cherries pay from the left reel.
- Every win moves you one step up the cash trail.
The cash trail
The trail has 12 steps. Each step you reach puts one coin of that spin’s stake into the trail pot. The pot pays out at the ★ steps: steps 4, 8 and 12. After step 12 the trail starts again from the bottom.
Each step saves the coin you were playing at the time, so the pot is always fair: a step reached with a 1-credit coin adds 1, a step reached with a 20-credit coin adds 20. Raising the stake just before a ★ step doesn’t make the pot bigger.
Nudges
After a spin that doesn’t win, the machine sometimes gives 1, 2 or 3 nudges. Each nudge moves one reel down one step, so the symbol above the line drops onto it. Tap NUDGE under a reel to use one. As soon as the line wins, the nudges stop and you’re paid. If no win is in reach, tap No more nudges.
The game highlights the best reel to nudge. It works this out by trying every possible order of nudges.
The gamble
Every line win waits in the middle before it’s paid. Collect it, or guess the next card from a freshly shuffled deck:
- its colour, red or black: a right guess doubles the win;
- its suit: a right guess quadruples it.
A wrong guess loses the win. You can guess up to five times in a row. The trail pot is never gambled. The gamble is exactly fair, so it doesn’t change the long-run return.

The odds
Every combination of reel stops can be counted, together with every way to use the nudges. With the best nudges, the machine returns exactly 96.13%:
- 74.69% from line wins, of which 25.56% comes from wins made with nudges.
- 21.44% from the cash trail. About 21% of spins win, and each win adds one coin to the pot.
Nudges come after 15% of losing spins: 1 nudge 8% of the time, 2 nudges 5% and 3 nudges 2%.
