How to play

Lucky Match is the plainest card in the scratch-off rack: a three-by-three grid of nine silver boxes, and under each box a credit amount. Find the same amount three times and that amount is yours.

Pick a ticket price first. The row of price buttons offers 10, 50 and 100 credits, and the game remembers your last choice. Then press Buy ticket. The price leaves your balance straight away and a fresh grid appears.

Now scratch. Drag a finger or the mouse across a box and the silver coating rubs off; a single tap on a box opens it outright, and keyboard players can move to a box and open it the same way. If you just want the answer, Reveal all uncovers every remaining box in one go. Nothing is paid until the ninth box is open, and then a banner tells you either “You won …” or “No win on this ticket.”

The amounts you see are already scaled to your ticket. On a 50 ticket a box might say 250, which is five times the price. That keeps the arithmetic off your plate: three boxes reading 250 means 250 credits come back.

You start a session with 1,000 credits. If you run dry, a button gives you another 1,000 free credits. Credits are play money only and can’t be bought or cashed out.

Prize table and odds

Every ticket is drawn from a fixed table of 10,000 outcomes before any coating comes off. Here is the full table, with the prize shown as a multiple of what you paid:

So 3,223 tickets out of 10,000 win something, a bit under one in three. Notice that the most common “win” is the 1× line, which just hands back your stake. Tickets that actually leave you ahead (2× or better) come up 14.23% of the time, roughly one in seven.

Multiply each prize by its chance and add the lines up: 0.18 + 0.18 + 0.18 + 0.11 + 0.09 + 0.06 + 0.10 = 0.90. That is the return to player, exactly 90% of everything you spend over the long run, with the remaining 10% as the house’s cut. The figure is the same on all three ticket prices because the table only scales; a 100 ticket is a 10 ticket with every number multiplied by ten.

A curious detail of this table is how evenly it is spread. The 1×, 2× and 5× rows each put back 18% of your spending, and the rare 500× row alone accounts for 10%. Most of the return arrives in small refunds, with the jackpot quietly holding a slice of it.

Why so many near misses

The grid is built after the result is chosen. For a losing ticket, the game deals the nine boxes from a pool that holds each of the seven amounts at most twice. Nine boxes from seven amounts with no amount allowed three times means every losing card shows at least two pairs. Those teasing pairs are not a sign you were close; they are a direct consequence of how the card is laid out. A winning card, by contrast, has exactly one triple and never a fourth copy of anything.

Strategy

No choice you make after buying changes anything. The outcome is fixed the moment the ticket is created, and scratching only reveals it, so the order you work through the boxes is pure theatre. Start in a corner, start in the middle, open the box that “feels” lucky; it is all the same ticket.

The only real decision is the ticket price, and that is a question of pace rather than odds. Against a 1,000-credit balance, 10-credit tickets give you about a hundred cards of play, while ten straight losers at 100 each (not unusual when two-thirds of tickets lose) empty the balance. Since the expected loss is 10% of whatever you spend, cheaper tickets simply stretch the session.

For a different twist on the same idea, Lucky Numbers has you match numbers against a winning row, and Scratch Tic-Tac-Toe pays when three X marks line up in a row.

Frequently asked questions

Are the credits real money?

No. Credits are virtual and exist only in this game. They can't be bought, cashed out or exchanged for prizes.

Can one ticket win twice?

No. A card holds at most one set of three equal amounts, and no amount ever appears four times.

Does it matter which box I scratch first?

No. The result is decided when you press Buy ticket. Scratching in any order, or pressing Reveal all, shows the same card.

What is the return on Lucky Match?

Exactly 90% of what you spend over the long run, at every ticket price. About 32% of tickets win something, though the most common win just returns the ticket price.

Why do losing cards always show pairs?

Losing cards are filled from seven amounts with each used at most twice, so nine boxes always contain two or more pairs. They don't mean the ticket nearly won.

What happens if I run out of credits?

A button appears that gives you 1,000 free credits so you can keep playing.
