How to play

Lantern Dragon puts five reels and three rows in front of a festival street, with a golden dragon as the wild. All twenty paylines are always active; you only choose what each one is worth.

The buttons along the bottom row set the line bet to 1, 2, 5, 10 or 20 credits. Multiply by twenty for the cost of a spin, so a round costs anywhere from 20 to 400 credits. You start with 1,000, which is fifty spins at the smallest stake. Hit Spin and the reels come to rest left to right.

A line pays when three, four or five identical symbols sit on it starting at reel one. A run that starts on reel two counts for nothing. Wins on different lines add up, but each line is credited only for its best combination.

Two symbols bend those rules:

  • The golden dragon substitutes for every picture and letter, but never for the red envelope.
  • The red envelope is the scatter. It ignores lines completely: three, four or five of them anywhere in view pay a multiple of the whole bet and start a batch of free spins.

Free spins replay at the line bet that won them, and more envelopes during the batch add spins to the counter. While spins are owed, the bet buttons are locked and the main button reads Free spin.

Why the dragon matters here

Every reel on this machine is 40 stops long and carries three dragons. That makes the wild common, and the pay table is tilted hard toward it. Five dragons on a line return 2,700 times the line bet, the largest single line prize on any of our five-reel machines. Four pay 425 and three pay 85, which already beats five Aces.

That last point changes how you read a spin. Say a line shows dragon, dragon, dragon, King, King. Read as Kings, it is five in a row worth 55. Read as dragons, it is three wilds worth 85. The game picks the larger, so you collect 85. Flip it around with four dragons and a pearl on reel five: four wilds pay 425, but five pearls pay 875, and the pearl wins.

On average, five dragons on some line turn up roughly once in 21,000 spins. Most of the return comes from the smaller hits in between.

The odds

Each reel stops on any of its 40 positions with equal chance, and the reels don’t influence each other. From the symbol counts the return works out to exactly 95.29% of everything wagered over the long run, free spins included.

Two red envelopes sit on each 40-stop strip, so any one reel shows an envelope 15% of the time. Three or more land about once every 38 spins. The envelope prizes are modest compared with the line pays, which is deliberate: on this machine about 72% of the return comes from regular paid spins and the remainder from free spins.

Strategy

There is no skill decision once the reels are moving, and no pattern in earlier results tells you anything about the next spin. The house edge of roughly 4.7% holds at every bet size. What you control is how fast you go through your credits.

  • Because the top prize is concentrated in the dragon, this machine swings harder than most. Long dry runs are normal. A smaller line bet buys more spins and more chances at a dragon line before a refill.
  • A 2,700× hit at a line bet of 1 is 2,700 credits; at 20 it’s 54,000. The odds are identical either way, so raise the bet only if your balance can absorb the quiet stretches.

Star Voyage uses exactly the same reel strips with a flatter pay table and shorter bonus rounds. If you’d rather trigger free spins more often, Clover Hill has the most frequent bonus of the family.

Frequently asked questions

Can I win anything real?

No. The credits are play money that exists only in this game. They can't be purchased, withdrawn or swapped for prizes.

Why did three dragons pay more than five Kings?

Each line pays only its single best combination. Three wild dragons are worth 85 times the line bet, five Kings 55, so the game credits the dragons.

Does the dragon replace the red envelope?

No. The wild stands in for every other symbol, but envelopes have to appear on their own. Three anywhere on screen are needed for the bonus.

Can I change my bet during free spins?

No. Free spins replay at the line bet that won them, and the bet buttons unlock once the counter reaches zero.

What if my credits run out?

A button gives you 1,000 fresh credits. Any free spins still owed are played first.

Are results random?

Yes. Every reel lands on a random stop with equal probability, unaffected by the other reels or by previous spins.
