Clover Hill is the slot where the wild almost never shows up. Each of its five reels has a single rainbow among 35 stops, half the wild supply of most of our video slots. To make up for it, the everyday symbols pay more: the ace, king, queen, jack and ten carry the richest letter prizes of any of our wild-and-scatter line slots, and the pot of gold bonus comes around more often than anywhere else.
How to play
You get 1,000 virtual credits to start. The reels form a 5×3 window crossed by 20 paylines, all of them active on every spin.
- Pick your Bet per line: 1, 2, 5, 10 or 20 credits. One spin costs twenty of those.
- Press Spin.
- Each payline is checked from the far-left reel. A run of at least three matching symbols starting there wins the amount in the table times your line bet. Only the best run on a line counts; separate lines add up.
The panel below the reels shows what each line paid. For the whole pay table converted to credits at your current bet, open Pay table.
What the symbols pay
| Symbol | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rainbow (wild) | 70 | 350 | 1,400 |
| Four-leaf clover | 45 | 175 | 700 |
| Golden horseshoe | 35 | 150 | 525 |
| Green hat | 25 | 100 | 350 |
| Ladybug | 20 | 80 | 250 |
| Ace | 14 | 50 | 150 |
| King | 10 | 35 | 125 |
| Queen | 9 | 25 | 85 |
| Jack | 7 | 20 | 70 |
| Ten | 7 | 17 | 60 |
Values are multiples of the line bet. Compare the letters with Fruit Slots, whose lowest five symbols pay 4 to 10 for three of a kind: here three tens already pay 7 and three aces 14.
The rainbow replaces any symbol except the pot of gold. Since there’s only one per reel, it pays well on its own (70 for three), but you’ll mostly meet it as a lone helper filling a gap in a clover or horseshoe line.
The pot of gold is the scatter and pays from anywhere in the window:
| Pots | Pay (× total bet) | Free spins |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 2 | 10 |
| 4 | 10 | 15 |
| 5 | 50 | 20 |
During free spins the bet stays at the level that triggered them, and new pots add more spins.
One wild, more bonuses
The strip on every reel holds 1 rainbow, 2 pots, 2 clovers, 3 horseshoes, 3 hats, 4 ladybugs and 4 of each letter. That’s 35 stops, one fewer than the usual 36, and the shorter strip is why pots land a little more often. From those counts:
- Return: 95.99%, with free spins and retriggers included.
- Free spins trigger about once every 26 spins, the most frequent bonus among our wild-and-scatter line slots (most of the others sit near 1 in 28).
- Free spins provide about 40% of the return.
- Five rainbows on a given line need the single rainbow on that line on all five reels: about 1 in 52 million. Treat the 1,400 prize as decoration.
The scarce wild changes how often lines connect. In a two-million-spin simulation, about 30% of Clover Hill spins paid something, a bit under the one-in-three rate of Fruit Slots. Yet when a spin does pay, it tends to matter: around 60% of winning spins returned the full stake or more, thanks to the fatter letter prizes. The rainbow itself barely features in the math; almost all line winnings come from the pictures and letters.
Strategy
You can’t influence a spin. The five reel stops are random and independent each time, and the machine has no memory, so streaks in either direction tell you nothing about the next result.
Your one lever is the line bet, and it doesn’t touch the 95.99% return. It does set your risk. With bonuses arriving about every 26 spins, a line bet of 1 or 2 lets 1,000 credits ride through many free-spin rounds. At 10 or 20 per line a cold stretch of 40 spins without pots can empty the balance.
If you’d rather chase wilds than avoid them, Star Voyage puts three on every reel. For a much bigger top prize, Lantern Dragon pays 2,700× for five wilds.
